Borussia Dortmund received a humiliating defeat in the first friendly match on their Asia tour.
The runner-up team of the 2023/24 Champions League season suffered a heavy defeat 0-4 against Thai team BG Pathum United. Former Bremen player Melvyn Lorenzen gave the hosts the lead in the 15th minute, and Teerasil Dangda increased the gap just before the end of the first half. Entering the second half, Jaroensak Wonggorn scored 2 goals to set the final score.
Dortmund, under the guidance of new coach Nuri Sahin, had a surprisingly weak performance, especially in the first half. And we cannot make excuses for a weak team, when star players like Niklas Sule and Felix Nmecha , Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt are all in the starting lineup. Sahin then made several substitutions in the second half, creating opportunities for a number of young players. Only Paris Brunner was on the field in both halves.
The reason for the failure of Dortmund players may lie in external factors. The friendly match took place after an intensive training session on Saturday night. After an 11-hour journey to Bangkok, the players from Germany had to practice at about 8:45 p.m., in temperatures of about 30 degrees and humid tropical air.
On Wednesday, Dortmund will play the second friendly match of their Asia tour, against Cerezo Osaka in Japan.
