MU is said to be in the early stages of an agreement to sign Arsenal’s talented young player, Chido Obi-Martin – who recently arrived at the Carrington training center.
According to The Athletic, MU is looking for an agreement to recruit young striker Chido Obi-Martin after his contract with Arsenal ends. The 16-year-old player visited MU’s Carrington training facility earlier this week, when the Manchester team was in the initial stages of discussing a transfer.
Obi-Martin decided to leave Arsenal, despite the Gunners offering what they considered a fair deal for the Dane. Any team that wants to sign Obi-Martin, including some big clubs – but not including Man City will offer scholarship terms. The youngster could sign his first professional contract at the end of November when he celebrates his 17th birthday.
Obi-Martin joined Arsenal’s youth system from Danish side KB Hoge in 2022 and has impressed at youth level for the Gunners. A player who played for England U16, Denmark U16 and U17, he scored 10 goals in Arsenal U16 team’s 14-3 victory over Liverpool in November 2023.
More recently, Obi-Martin has scored four goals against Crystal Palace and Fulham, five goals against West Ham and seven goals in an Under-18 match against Norwich City. In total, he scored 29 goals in 17 matches for the U18 team. With this achievement, Obi-Martin surpassed Folarin Balogun’s record of scoring the most goals for U18 Arsenal in a season, previously set at 25 goals in the 2018/19 season.
Born in 2007 in Glostrup, a suburb of Copenhagen, this young Danish footballer moved to England as a teenager. He has represented both the England and Denmark national teams at youth level and is also eligible to play for Nigeria. However, it now seems more likely that he will represent Denmark, having recently scored 10 goals in 14 games for the Under-17s, including four in a 6-2 win over Norway. Obi-Martin also played for Denmark in the 2024 European U17 qualifying campaign, scoring 2 goals in 3 group matches.
With MU, the Red Devils are showing great ambition at both the youth team and first team levels, something that has not been seen since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. It seems that this is a new way of thinking of the team’s board of directors. , focusing on potential young players, not creating “blockbusters” with established stars. Besides, there is always competition to win talented young players to nurture the next generation.
